Objekt:	Schale der Chancay-Kultur
Material:	Heller Ton mit rotem Brandmuster.
Datierung:	Etwa 1000 n. Chr. bis 1470 n. Chr. Zeit der Chancay, auf dem Gebiet des heutigen Peru.
Beschreibung:	Hohe bauchige Schale. Die dünnwandige Keramik trägt eine grob ausgeführte abstrakte Oberfläsche. Die Schale ist ein schönes Beispiel für die Keramik der Chancay-Kultur. Sie wirkt in ihrer Ausführung und abstrakter einfachr Herstellung, strahlt aber gerade dadurch eine heute noch modern wirkenden Eleganz aus.
Hintergrund:	Während in Europa das Mittelalter geschrieben wurde, war das heutige Peru von einer vielleicht noch bunteren Vielfalt an Kulturen beherrscht. In der Mitte des Landes, entlang der Küste, übernahm die Kultur der Chancay im 11. Jahrhundert das Reich der Wari und etablierte ihre eigene Verwaltung und Lebensweise. Wie genau diese aussah, darüber wissen wir heute wenig. Jedenfalls betrieben die Chancay Ackerbau, Fischfang und handelten mit ihren Nachbarn. Und dies für Jahrhunderte mit offenbarem Erfolg. Im 15. Jahrhundert unterwarfen schließlich die kriegerischen Inka die Chancay-Kultur im Rahmen ihrer Expansionspolitik. Was blieb sind die Keramiken und Textilien dieser präkolumbischen Kultur. Und gerade die Keramiken sind raffiniert, denn sie wirken zunächst sorglos, fast schon plump, doch darin boutiques liegt ihr Charme. Die abstrakten Muster und die Leichtigkeit der Formen haben ihren ästhetischen Reiz bis heute nicht verloren. Im Gegenteil, sie wirken geradezu modern und tragen einen Funken von Inspiration bis in unsere Zeit.
