I have here for sale a very collectable Childrens book entitled, ALICES ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND by LEWIS CARROLL. With forty- two illustrations by JOHN TENNIEL. This EALRY EDITION ( twenty- second thousand) was published in 1870, by MACMILLAN AND CO, London. Printed by RICHARD CLAY.

Carroll first met Alexander Macmillan, a high-powered London publisher, on 19 October 1863. His firm, Macmillan Publishers, agreed to publish Alices Adventures in Wonderland by sometime in 1864. Carroll financed the initial print run, possibly because it gave him more editorial authority than other financing methods. He managed publication details such as typesetting and engaged illustrators and translators.

Macmillan finally published the new edition, printed by Richard Clay, in November 1865. Carroll requested a red binding, deeming it appealing to young readers. A new edition, released in December 1865 for the Christmas market but carrying an 1866 date, was quickly printed.

Along with a letter from a letter from Edith Maude Hedley to Major Simonds, the letter concerns the book.

Bound in the original red linen boards. Gilt embossed illustration of Alice in a circular frame on the front board. Gilt fore-edge. Spine has been rebacked and is lacking lower part. Gilt embossed Cheshire Cat on the back board. Boards are stained / toned. Board corners are bumped. Black endpapers. Torn top bound edge corner on the title page. Lacking tissue guard. 1 page has tear on lower edge. Scattered light spotting and age soil. 192pp plus [1]pp of authors list. 14cm x 19cm.

Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.

To keep the cost of the postage down to the most economical level per book, you may consider buying more than 1 item from my eBay account. You can then request a combined postage cost and I will combine the items into the fewest parcels as possible - saving you money :)
